Driving Positions Within Our Company: Loudoun Milk transportation is always looking for safe and experienced drivers to join our team. You must be 21 years of age, hold a Class A CDL, have a good driving record and work history. We are looking for qualified applicants from the Shenandoah Valley, Loudoun County, and Suburban Maryland regions. We are also looking for diesel mechanics to work at our Purcellville, VA location. As an employee of Loudoun Milk you will be expected to be able to perform many different duties related to milk and food grade transport. We have three classifications of drivers, though each driver may occasionally be expected to perform the job of another. These are: Relief driver This job includes the functions of both a route driver and a transport driver. This job involves picking up and delivering milk routes when the driver assigned to that route is off. Delivering loads to receiving plants that other drivers pick up. Hauling cream, condensed milk, and occasionally butter, powdered milk, drinking water, juice and wine and shuttling trailers, and on some days doing light maintenance and parts delivery. Farm pick-up driver This job applies to drivers who have assigned milk routes. These drivers pick-up milk from dairy farms and deliver to receiving plants or to our shop for delivery by another driver. Transport driver This job includes transporting raw milk for delivery to receiving plants, and transporting cream and condensed milk, water, butter, powder, juice and wine from plant to plant. These drivers may be out for several nights during the week
Most new employees will first be trained to pick up raw milk from dairy farms in the Shenandoah Valley Region from Martinsburg, West Virginia to Lexington, Virginia and to deliver those loads to plants in the following locations: Strasburg, Va. Mt. Crawford, Va. Lynchburg, VA. Richmond, Va. Springfield, VA. Newport News, Va. Portsmouth, Va. Winston-Salem, N.C. High Point, N.C. Laurel, Md. Hancock, Md. The primary duties of a farm pick up driver include; Doing a thorough pre-trip inspection of the truck and trailer. Learning the physical locations and procedures of both the farms and the receiving plants. Obtaining a permit from the State of Virginia to weigh and sample raw milk. Verifying the quality and temperature of the milk at each farm before loading. Measuring the amount of milk from each tank at each farm. Recording accurate information from each farm on a manifest. Taking several 3 oz. samples of milk from each tank and keeping it on ice. Changing the temperature charts. Pumping the milk from the farm tank to the trailer using a hose and electric pump. Delivering the load on a timely and safe manner to the receiving plant where it will be unloaded and washed. Disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling the milk hose and pump while unloading. Completing paperwork in thorough and accurate manner and turning it in at the end of each day. Keeping equipment clean and notifying management immediately of any mechanical problems that need to be addressed. Transport drivers deliver raw milk from our shop to the receiving plants listed above as well as hauling cream, condensed milk, and other products from plant to plant. These include but are not limited to: From Strasburg, Va. To plants in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina. From Springfield, Va. To plants in Maryland, Virginia, Upstate N.Y., Connecticut and Massachusetts. From Laurel, Md. To plants in New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
We also have a position hauling distilled water from a power plant in Waldorf, Md. to the Naval base in Indian Head, Maryland Pay: Drivers are paid by the trip or route with the exception of transport drivers who are occasionally paid by the mile. Transport drivers who are out overnight are paid a per diem. Drivers are paid for time waiting to load and unload over three hours. Drivers are paid every Friday.
